Poverty, baby it's on my mind,
Can't get head above the water, hope I don't turn to crime,
And what do bankers do, when they see the folks are dissed?
They'll be standin' around the corner doin' the double-bubble twist.
Sometimes I feel like printing up some cash,
But they'll lock you up real quick, and whip you with a lash,
Woodrow Wilson warned of them, we've got ourselves a mess,
Private bankers print our money on their private printing press.
It ain't funny, we got no money, listen honey...
Poverty, baby it's on my mind,
Can't get head above the water, hope I don't turn to crime,
What do bankers do, when the folks look dissed?
They'll be standin' around the corner doin' the double-bubble twist.
Sometimes it seems there ain't nothing you can get,
'Less you purchase it with credit and put yourself in debt,
The men who make the loans take the printer off the shelf,
And they print a trillion dollars and they pay it to themselves!
It ain't funny, we got no money, listen honey...
Poverty, baby it's on my mind,
Can't get head above the water, hope I don't have to turn to crime,
You won't know what they got, till you see what you have missed,
They'll be hangin' around the corner doin' the double-bubble twist.
